M. Russell Ballard (Quorum of the Twelve)

In recent years there has been a rash of articles, books, and films written about women and girls who gossip and who are “mean.” Satan is always attempting to undermine the most precious element of a woman’s divine nature—the nature to nurture. (Ensign, May 2010)

M. Russell Ballard (Quorum of the Twelve)

It is, unfortunately, all too easy to illustrate the confusion and distortion of womanhood in contemporary society. Immodest, immoral, intemperate women jam the airwaves, monopolize magazines, and slink across movie screens—all while being celebrated by the world. The Apostle Paul spoke prophetically of “perilous times” that will come in the last days and specifically referenced something that may have seemed particularly perilous to him: “silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts” (2 Timothy 3:1, 6). Popular culture today often makes women look silly, inconsequential, mindless, and powerless. It objectifies them and disrespects them and then suggests that they are able to leave their mark on mankind only by seduction—easily the most pervasively dangerous message the adversary sends to women about themselves. (Ensign, May 2010)

Richard G. Scott (Quorum of the Twelve)

Beware of the subtle ways Satan employs to take you from the plan of God and true happiness. One of Satan’s most effective approaches is to demean the role of wife and mother in the home. This is an attack at the very heart of God’s plan to foster love between husband and wife and to nurture children in an atmosphere of understanding, peace, appreciation, and support. Much of the violence that is rampant in the world today is the harvest of weakened homes. Government and social plans will not effectively correct that, nor can the best efforts of schools and churches fully compensate for the absence of the tender care of a compassionate mother and wife in the home. (Ensign, November 1996, p. 73-75)

Richard G. Scott (Quorum of the Twelve)

Satan has unleashed a seductive campaign to undermine the sanctity of womanhood, to deceive the daughters of God and divert them from their divine destiny. He well knows women are the compassionate, self-sacrificing, loving power that binds together the human family. He would focus their interests solely on their physical attributes and rob them of their exalting roles as wives and mothers. He has convinced many of the lie that they are third-class citizens in the kingdom of God. That falsehood has led some to trade their divinely given femininity for male coarseness....

Because it is their nature to give and please others, many women do not realize their intrinsic worth. That loss makes them vulnerable to those who would convince them that their major role is to be physically appealing.

So many of our own young women sacrifice their God-given endowment of femininity, deep spirituality, and a caring interest in others on the altar of popular, worldly opinion.... Many dress and act immodestly because they are told that is what [men] want.... Those young women who do embrace conservative dress standards and exhibit the attributes of a devoted Latter-day Saint are often criticized for not being “with it.” (Ensign, May 2000, 36)

Harold B. Lee (President)

Righteous indignation should be felt by every pure, true woman when she sees in pictures, on the screen, and in song a vulgar portrayal of a woman as something a little more than a sex symbol. (The Teachings of Harold B. Lee, 292)

Patricia T. Holland

If I were Satan and wanted to destroy a society, I think I ... would stage a full-blown blitz on its women. I would keep them so distraught and distracted that they would never find the calming strength and serenity for which their sex has always been known.

[Satan] has effectively done that, catching us in the crunch of trying to be superhuman instead of realistically striving to reach our individual purpose and unique God-given potential within such diversity. He tauntingly teases us that if we don't have it all-fame, fortune, families, and fun, and have it every minute all the time--we have been short-changed; we are second-class citizens in the race of life. You'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to get these messages in today's world, and as a sex we are struggling, our families are struggling, and our society struggles. ( A Heritage of Faith: Talks Selected from the BYU Women's Conferences, p.17)

Julie B. Beck (General Relief Society President)

The use of pornography among our youth is growing. The new target audience for those who create pornography is young women. They are the new audience. You need to be aware of that. There are media messages everywhere that are anti-family, and our young people are very connected with media: Internet, TV, the things that they get on their phones, all electronic devices are delivering anti-family messages to them every day. Increasingly, they are seeing no reason to form a family or get married.... They are being desensitized about the need to form eternal families....

These messages that you are hearing, a lot of them are targeting your young women. Anti-family messages targeting young women. Satan knows this. He will never have a body. He will never have a family. He will target those young women who create the bodies to come, and who should teach the families. They don’t even know what they’re being taught in the messages. It’s just seeping in almost through their pores. Because Satan can’t have it, he’s luring away many women, and also men, and they’re losing confidence in their ability to form eternal families.
