The Covenant Prophecy of the Book of Mormon
A Comparison of 1 Nephi 11-14 and 2 Nephi 25-30

Nephi's vision recorded in 1 Nephi 11-14 effectively established the Nephite covenant narrative or Covenant Prophecy motif which is prominent in the small plates of Nephi in the Book of Mormon. Nephi repeatedly emphasized this covenant prophecy in his writings in various ways. 2 Nephi 25-30 is in large measure Nephi's recapitulation (and prophetic expansion) of that vision received years earlier and recorded in 1 Nephi 11-14. The following chart shows the tight relationship between the two.

Covenant Narrative Element 1 Ne. 11-14 2 Ne. 25-30
1. Jesus Christ to come among the Jews. He will be rejected by them, crucified, and resurrected. 1 Ne. 11:24, 27-28, 32-33 2 Ne. 25:12-13, 19
2. Jerusalem to be destroyed again and the Jews scattered by Gentile nations. 1 Ne. 11:36 2 Ne. 25:14-15
3. Christ visits Lehi's seed after his resurrection following the destruction of the wicked. After four generations destruction will come to Nephi's seed. 1 Ne. 12:1-20 2 Ne. 26:1-11
4. On the American continent Gentiles will kill and scatter the remnant of the Lamanite nation. 1 Ne. 13:14 2 Ne. 26:15, 19
5. After many generations the Lord will perform a “marvelous work and wonder” wherein He will restore the lost Gospel and begin restoring scattered Israel to their lost lands. The gospel will go first to the Gentiles and from them to the Jews and the remnant of Lehi's seed. 1 Ne. 13:29-34; 14:7 2 Ne. 25:16-18; 29:1-2
6. The Book of Mormon will play a significant role in restoring the Jews and the seed of Lehi to a knowledge of the Gospel of their Redeemer in the last days. The Gospel will be given to them by Gentiles 1 Ne. 13:35-42 2 Ne. 25:18, 21-23; 26:15-17; 27:6-35; 29:1-2, 12-14; 30:3-7
7. Both Zion and Babylon will spread throughout the earth. Gentiles who accept the gospel will be numbered among the covenant people of the House of Israel. Those who reject the gospel will be cut off from the covenant people and become part of Babylon. The covenant people of the Lord will be found throughout the earth. They will assist in building the New Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Babylon, the whore, will have dominion throughout the world. The Great and Abominable church will fight against the covenant people of the Lord in the latter-days. 1 Ne. 14:1-2, 8-13 2 Ne. 30:1-2
8. The final triumph of Israel. The Great and Abominable church will fall. Israel will be protected and all who fight against righteous Israel will be destroyed . 1 Ne. 14:14-17 2 Ne. 27:2-3; 28:18; 30:10
9. The Father will commence His work of restoring Israel to their promised lands, and the Lord’s covenant people will dwell with Him during the Millennium of peace. 1 Ne. 14:17 2 Ne. 30:8-18
